Oral Health is important as it affects your overall health. It is related with your mouth, which includes the teeth, gums, and supporting tissues. It is easy to take your oral health for granted, but it is key to living each day comfortably. These tissues allow you to speak, smile, sigh, kiss, smell, taste, chew, swallow, and cry. They also let you show a world of feelings through expressions. Taking good care of these tissues can prevent disease in them and throughout your body.

Oral Health is of supreme Importance. Why?

Oral health is at many times neglected by individuals and this is the primary reason why disorders are on an all time high in recent years. In fact, oral health refers not only the health of the mouth but also of the teeth, supporting tissues and gums. It is essential that proper care must be taken, at all times, to ensure that the oral health is maintained at acceptable levels.

At times, individuals think that oral health is not related to overall health. But, it has been proven by several eminent medical studies that it is critical to overall health and must therefore not be neglected. Several life-endangering diseases such as HIV, eating disorders and diabetes manifest their initial signs in the mouth itself.

Studies have revealed that individuals suffering from gum disease or who have a past history of gum disorders are more prone to heart diseases such as heart attack. Bacteria growing in the oral cavity are also likely to travel to human lungs resulting in diseases such as pneumonia. It is also observed that pregnant women with gum problems are more likely to conceive a premature baby than a normal woman.

Oral disorders act as communicators of Bacteria to gain an easy access into the blood stream of an individual. This sometimes leads to weakening of the immune system of the body making an individual incapable to provide resistance against otherwise resisted disorders.

Remember, oral diseases are likely to impact the overall development of the body including the outer personality and may also be the reason of poor self-esteem and appearance. This may also be the beginning of a dreadful disease in the near future.

It is therefore essential to have a complete and medical examination of the entire mouth, gums and teeth at regular intervals to ensure proper hygiene.

Causes of oral disorders:

• Smoking is one of the major risk factor for the development of oral cancer causing more than several million causalities each year.
• The usage of drugs may also be one of the biggest causes in the development of oral diseases.
• Improper flossing and brushing.

How can one ensure good oral health?

The following points must be observed to ensure a healthy and safe oral hygiene:
• One must always make sure that brushing and flossing must be done each day.
• Regular visits to dentist must also be made to stay away from oral diseases.
• As soon as pain or any abnormal activity is seen in the mouth or nearby areas, one must make an immediate appointment with a dentist.
• One must avoid the usage of smoking, alcohol, tobacco leaves and non-reliable mouth products.
• One must stay healthy by performance of exercises, good and rich diet and have a good sleep.
• Learn good brushing techniques.
